Boatshed Platform Opportunity: Full Overview BETA DRAFT 1
Boatshed is opening up its proven boat sales platform to allow more people, both inside and outside the organisation, to earn income by listing, selling, and managing boats. Whether you're a current broker, marine professional, or entrepreneur looking for a business model to scale, the Boatshed platform offers a modular, flexible structure that you can build on.
The Core Offer
For a fixed monthly fee of £150 (or equivalent in euros/dollars), partners can access Process 5 of the Boatshed system. This includes:
A full listing on Boatshed.com
Your own customer-facing Boatshed website/portal
Access to marketing tools, real-time statistics, dashboards, and messaging systems
The full Boatshed Toolbox, including QC systems, support, and data distribution
This forms the base layer of the Boatshed platform, allowing anyone to start listing boats and engaging with potential buyers.
Commission Structure
There is a minimum of £500 payable to HQ for Process 4 (legal completion, funds handling, contracts). This ensures Boatshed remains compliant and supports the ongoing platform infrastructure.
Beyond that, earnings are flexible:
Brokers can earn 100% of whatever they charge for Processes 1 to 3 (local support, photos, viewings, negotiation).
For Process 4, if Boatshed HQ is involved, partners earn 50% of the commission over the £500 minimum. For example, if the commission on a boat is £2,000, £500 goes to HQ, and the remaining £1,500 is split 50/50 — so the partner receives £750.
Example Commissions
Boat value: £50,000
Commission at 6% = £3,000
Boatshed HQ receives: £150 (membership) + £500 minimum
Remaining £2,350 is available for Process 4 and any local services. A partner delivering Process 4 with HQ could earn £1,175 or more.
Boat value: £100,000
Commission at 6% = £6,000
Same model applies. HQ receives minimums, and partners keep the rest, depending on involvement.
Boat value: £400,000
Commission at 6% = £24,000
This opens up high-earning opportunities for partners managing larger listings or teams of local brokers.
Who This SuitsIndividuals already within the Boatshed organisation who want to earn more or build teams
Brokers who want a flexible model without full-time commitment
Marine professionals (e.g. marina staff, engineers, surveyors) who want to add sales as a revenue stream
Entrepreneurs who want to build a business on top of the platform, either locally or in a niche market
You can work alone or bring others in — either to share the work (Processes 1 to 4) or resell the opportunity (referrals, teams, etc.). As long as Boatshed receives its £150 monthly and £500 minimum for Process 4, the rest is yours to negotiate and build from.
This structure allows local ownership, entrepreneurial growth, and recurring income — while HQ supports platform quality, legal compliance, and global buyer reach.
FAQs
For Sellers
Q: What is included in the £150 membership?
A: You gain access to Process 5: the full Boatshed Toolbox. This includes full access to the Boatshed Platform, your own customer-facing Boatshed website/portal for customers to see your boat listings, professional marketing tools, QC and listing dashboards, traffic stats, messaging tools, and visibility on Boatshed.com.
Q: Is there a minimum contract?
A: No. You can join for one month only if you like. If the boat sells in that month, you’ll pay just the £150 + 1% of the final sale price (for Process 5).
Q: Do I have to pay anything upfront?
A: Only the £150 membership fee. All other process costs (such as legal handling or negotiation) are paid from the final sale proceeds — no upfront legal or marketing fees.
Q: Can I use just parts of the service?
A: Yes. The system is modular. You can start with just Process 5 (self-managed listing), then add additional processes (like help with negotiation or legal work) later if you need them.
Q: What if I want more help after I start?
A: You can opt into extra processes at any stage — such as having a broker take photos, handle viewings, or manage offers. Each additional process usually costs 1%, but please note: if a broker completes a process for you (e.g. photos or negotiation), that cost remains even if you later reduce your involvement. It wouldn’t be fair otherwise.
Q: Can I get a viewing or survey arranged?
A: Yes. A broker can assist with arranging viewings or surveys if you’re using Process 2 or 3. Surveys themselves are not included in Process 2 and are usually commissioned and paid for directly by the buyer.
For Brokers
Q: Can I offer just some of the processes?
A: Yes. You can deliver any of Processes 1–3 (e.g. local listings, viewings, or negotiation). You do not need to handle legal completion or funds (Process 4) unless you want to. Boatshed HQ can always step in for Process 4.
Q: How much do I earn as a broker?
A: You keep 100% of your own charges for Processes 1–3. For Process 4, you receive 50% of the amount above the £500 minimum. So if Process 4 generates £1,000 in commission, you earn £250 (half of the £500 above the minimum).
Q: Who sets the pricing for Processes 1–3?
A: You do. While 1% of the boat value is typical, you can quote flat fees or customise your rates as long as the seller agrees and quality standards are maintained.
Q: What’s the support like from HQ?
A: Full platform support, data dashboards, quality control tools, and listing distribution. HQ handles customer funds and legal paperwork if Process 4 is activated.
For Marine Professionals
Q: I run a marina — can I use this to sell boats on-site?
A: Absolutely. The Boatshed system is perfect for marinas, boatyards, and marine service companies who want to add sales capability for their customers.
Q: What do I need to get started?
A: Just one boat to list and a £150 membership payment. From there, you can offer Process 2 services (photos, access, etc.) or act as a referring agent and earn on the final sale.
Q: Can I charge for services like haul-out or cleaning?
A: Yes. Many marine professionals add value through enhanced listings, prep work, and viewings. These can be built into your own process charges or offered as extras.
For Platform Partners and ResellersQ: What’s the business model?
A: Boatshed takes £150/month and a £500 minimum on Process 4. Beyond that, partners can resell the system, bring in sellers, and manage part or all of the sale. The commission split (typically 50/50) applies after HQ minimums.
Q: Can I build a team under me?
A: Yes. You can recruit others to help with various processes or build a group that operates under your umbrella — like an agency or local network. As long as the core costs are covered, the margin is yours to share.
Q: Can I just refer boats and earn?
A: Yes. Through ReferABoat, you can submit leads and track their progress. If the boat sells, you get up to 20% of the broker’s commission — this can be worth hundreds or thousands per boat.
Q: How flexible is it?
A: Very. You can choose your role — a hands-on broker, a business development rep, a marketing agent, or even just a lead referrer. The platform is designed for modular income opportunities.
